Mould and mildew in carpets and mattresses
Mould in a carpet or mattress is a genuine issue in Manchester’s climate, not just a cosmetic one — humidity here holds between roughly 79–89% year-round, which is exactly the range mould needs to establish itself in damp fabric and padding.
Where it usually shows up first
- Ground-floor rooms — closer to ground moisture and often less airflow than upper floors.
- Bay windows and window edges — condensation collects here more than anywhere else in a room.
- Under mattresses — poor airflow between mattress and bed base traps moisture from body heat overnight.
- After a leak or flood — even a small, seemingly-dried leak can leave enough residual moisture to start mould growth in the days after.
What we do about it
We treat the affected area with appropriate anti-microbial products as part of the cleaning process, and extract thoroughly to reduce residual moisture that would otherwise let mould return quickly. We’ll also tell you honestly if the smell or growth points to an underlying moisture problem — a leak, poor ventilation, or rising damp — that needs addressing separately, since cleaning alone won’t fix a recurring cause.
